OUR STORY
Solara is a retreat shaped by the landscape that existed long before us.
Solara began as the restoration of a quiet family property overlooking the Algarve coastline. The retreat was designed to preserve the character of the original landscape while creating a contemporary and intimate guest experience.

Create your own rhythm with a personalised itinerary designed around your interests, energy and time at Solara. Our team will weave together the experiences, the spaces and the quiet moments that matter most to you.
Founder & Creative Director

From hand-cut local stone to native pine and reclaim tile, our physical structure shares an organic baseline with the Algarve itself.
Every dry-stack stone wall and terracotta floor tile has been hand-worked by local artisans preserving historical construction legacies.

Passive solar design, low-impact site integration, and zero-carbon building practices ensure we act as stewards, not developers.
Large terrace openings, open-air living areas, and continuous raw stone floors weave the interior and exterior into a single flow.
Harnessing the Algarve's abundant southern sun to cleanly power our lighting, cooling, and water systems.
Our kitchen relies strictly on hyper-local producers, reducing food miles and celebrating authentic flavors.
Biodegradable, zero-waste amenities custom formulated with native botanicals and plastic-free packaging.
Advanced grey water recycling and smart rain capture designed to nourish our native Mediterranean gardens.
Direct collaborations that empower regional potters, weavers, and stone masons to keep heritage arts alive.
Investing a percentage of our profits directly into regional coast protection and local educational initiatives.
Every morning, small boats from the nearby harbor bring fresh, sustainably caught wild sea bass and sardines directly to our kitchen. We work closely with generational fishermen who respect local marine reserves, ensuring that our menu honors both culinary tradition and the living sea.

The handmade terracotta tableware used in our dining spaces is thrown just a few kilometers away by master potters. By sourcing raw clay vessels directly from local kilns, we keep ancient design languages at the center of the Solara experience, letting you touch the soil of Portugal with every meal.
